You’ll need:
A black candle (for release)
A white candle (for guidance)
An orange or gold candle (for new beginnings and light)
A photo or token of an ancestor or loved one
A small offering (bread, apples, wine, or herbs: Herbs like rosemary (for remembrance) and mugwort (for vision)
A cauldron or fireproof bowl
Paper and pen
Ritual Steps:
Cleanse your space with smoke, salt, or sound. Ground yourself and take three deep breaths.
Set your sacred space. Dim the lights and set your altar space candle center.
Light the black candle, saying:
“I release what no longer serves me. I honor the endings that make way for new beginnings.”Light the white candle, saying:
“I welcome wisdom, renewal, and the blessings of the new year.”Light the orange/gold candle saying:
“I step into this season renewed and ready for new beginning in light.”Place your photo or token between the candles. Speak the names of your ancestors or spirit guides aloud. Thank them for their guidance.
Offer your gift of food or herbs to the earth or your altar as a symbol of gratitude.
Reflect on the past year. What have you learned? What are you ready to let go of? Write each thing down on small slips of paper.
Release. Burn each slip safely in your cauldron, whispering gratitude for the lessons they brought.
Honor your ancestors. Speak their names or leave a small offering — a piece of bread, honey, or wine — to thank them for their guidance.
Set intentions for the new year. Focus on what you wish to manifest in the turning of the wheel.
Sit in stillness or pull tarot cards, asking:
“What lesson do I carry from this past year into the next?”
When finished, blow out the candles, leaving the offerings overnight.
